Easy Steps to Help You Learn French Quickly
As you`ve probably heard a million and one times, Rome wasn`t built in a day. The same is true of language acquisition. You cannot pick up a foreign language in a day, either. However, you can still master it in a relatively short amount of time. Here are some of the best tips to help you learn french quickly:
1. Master situational French.
Of course, you don`t want to sound like a phrase book because everyone would find your manner of speaking strange. However, it helps to master vocabulary and phrases that are applicable for certain situations. This includes using public transportation, shopping in the supermarket, dining at a restaurant, talking on the phone, hailing a cab, buying bus tickets, and so on. For instance, if you`re in a restaurant and you`re served frog legs that you didn`t order, wouldn't you want to know what to say in that situation? By learning and mastering certain vocabulary and phrases for everyday scenarios, you`ll definitely be able to learn French quickly --- and painlessly to boot!
2. Educate yourself about French culture.
Eating French fries and French toast don't count as "educational" experiences. But don't worry, there are many ways you can learn about French culture. By learning some of the hallmarks of the culture, you`ll be able to pick up the language quicker.
Taking a holistic approach to foreign language acquisition is arguably the most effective way to master a new language. That doesn`t mean you need to take the next flight to France. However, by learning the idiosyncrasies of the culture in France, you`ll be able to master vocabulary, phrases, and grammar in a meaningful way. For instance, it`s one thing to study the vocabulary related to cafés in France. It`s quite another thing to study the sub-culture of cafés in that country!
3. Find a mentor.
As with learning anything else, one of the fastest ways to learn French quickly is by having a mentor who can help you with pronunciation, grammar questions, and so on. Although it`s quite possible to master a foreign language without a teacher per se, it`s always helpful to have someone to guide you whenever you need help. Many online programs use a “sink or swim” type of approach. Once you buy their language learning product, you`re on your own. Don't go for such programs. Look for programs like Rocket French (or any of the Rocket Language programs for that matter) because these programs offer continuing customer service and support.
4. Assess your progress.
Assessment can take a variety of forms, though the traditional quizzes and tests remain some of the most effective ones. Effective assessment is critical because it provides an array of practical information. You`ll discover what you`ve already mastered, and which areas you will need to work on some more. Ultimately, this type of assessment will help you learn French quickly.
Now, while assessment should be effective, it doesn`t necessarily have to be dull! In fact, assessment can even include fun exercises and games that provide you with a barrel of fun. What`s most important is that the assessment provides quantitative data about where you are in your learning stage and what improvements are necessary.
Many language learners have already discovered how effective the comprehensive Rocket French program is to help one learn French quickly. Have you?
